SACAQM has been awarded funding by the Horizon’s Institute at the University of Leeds, through its Horizons Platform programme.
SACAQM is a key partner in SYNERGIA (Sustainable Systems for Environmental and Health Resilience using Global Integrated Analytics), one of only two interdisciplinary research teams selected in 2025 following a highly competitive review process. The project addresses environmental and health inequalities by integrating air quality, urban noise, and biodiversity data across South Africa and the UK.
SYNERGIA emphasizes community-led science, with residents actively involved in sensor deployment, data interpretation, and co-design of research tools. The collaboration aims to produce inclusive, data-driven solutions for healthier and more sustainable environments.
This recognition highlights SACAQM’s ongoing contribution to global interdisciplinary research tackling pressing environmental challenges.
