SACAQM Launches Agentic AI-Powered Hot-Spot Alert System

We are excited to announce the launch of our new Hot-Spot Alert System, powered by Agentic AI, on the SACAQM website.

The new system is designed to automatically identify potential air-quality hot spots by monitoring PM2.5 levels across our network. When pollution levels exceed the defined threshold, the Agentic AI system is triggered. It then investigates the event by analysing the available air-quality measurements, including neighboring data, to determine whether the event represents a significant pollution episode and whether an alert should be raised.

This approach introduces an intelligent investigation step beyond a conventional threshold-based alert. Rather than simply detecting a threshold exceedance, the Agentic AI investigates the surrounding data to better understand the event and assess its significance.

The concept of triggering an investigation and analysing neighboring data is inspired by approaches used in particle physics at CERN, where trigger systems identify potentially significant events for further investigation and analysis.

The new Hot-Spot Alert System adds an intelligent layer to the existing SACAQM air-quality monitoring platform, supporting automated detection, investigation, and early warning of potential air-quality events.

Users can now access the Hot-Spot Alert System directly through the SACAQM website and explore how Agentic AI can support real-time air-quality monitoring and intelligent event investigation.
