SACAQM has been featured by the Horizons Institute at the University of Leeds for its pioneering work in community-driven environmental science and artificial intelligence.

The article highlights SYNERGIA — a new concept initiated jointly by SACAQM and colleagues from the University of Leeds — which aims to develop Sustainable sYstems for ENvironmental and hEalth Resilience using Global Integrated Analytics.

SYNERGIA bridges local communities, scientists, and engineers across South Africa and the United Kingdom, empowering citizens to participate directly in environmental monitoring and data interpretation. By combining low-cost sensing technologies, artificial intelligence, and community co-research, the initiative explores how air quality and health data can drive equitable, evidence-based action for cleaner and healthier cities.

The project underscores the growing impact of SACAQM’s work in shaping international collaborations that promote environmental justice, data accessibility, and health resilience across underserved communities.
